Beer City Bread Co is my kind of place. They bring out a plate of sauces, and that alone earns serious goodwill from me.
The ranch said homemade in the menu and you can tell. No sour smell, a thicker consistency, and an interesting look I couldn’t quite place by sight, almost gritty in way that sounds worse than it is. The flavor is mild and easygoing. A little more punch and it would be in the conversation with the big dogs, but it holds its own, and I’d happily order it again.
The lightly breaded boneless chicken bites were the real anchor of the meal. I’d order them again without thinking about it. Maybe twice.
The bistro sauce had a tangy horseradish kick. I can see someone loving it, but it wasn’t my thing, and I’d probably swap it out next visit. The Bang Bang sauce looked suspicious, but was sweet, almost like a coleslaw base, in a really good way. Not quite the Bang Bang at Bonefish, but holding your own against Bonefish is a tall order. Few sauces manage it.
Runner-Up. A good ranch, great company on the plate, and a place I’d happily come back to.
