It’ll Do * (with Runner-Up potential)
The Barn Door is one of those local pillars. A true community staple that pours so much back into Mount Pleasant. With all the heart they put into the people around them, I was extra hopeful for their ranch.
My first visit left me underwhelmed. The ranch didn’t have much of a smell (which usually signals bottled, but the menu said homemade), and the flavor leaned super sour cream–forward, weirdly almost like Michigan Chip Dip vibes even though I don’t make mine with sour cream. They also offer a jalapeño ranch that had a little more flavor with just the faintest hint of heat.
Then a week later, I found myself back at The Barn Door. I wasn’t planning on retrying the ranch, but my nephew swore it was good with his appetizer, so I gave it a second shot, and I’m glad I did. This time, it had the right smell, solid consistency, and finally tasted like ranch, not sour cream chip dip. A much better experience all around. (My mom didn’t agree, but she’s a honey mustard girl, so I’ll let her sit this one out.)
At the end of the day, The Barn Door is the kind of spot that deserves all the support. Even if the ranch might be a little inconsistent, the love they show the community makes it worth pulling up a chair and giving it another try.
