Not all ranch is created equal

The Cabin - Mount Pleasant, Michigan

The Cabin serves ranch that actually deserves the notoriety it gets. The famous in a small town vibe works for a reason. Salty, thick, and unforgettable. Ask for a big one, you’ll need it. But someone please explain why their sister restaurants are flopping in the ranch department. Justice for the rest of us

RANCH REVIEWDRESSING APPROVED!TOP-NOTCH!MICHIGAN BASED

The Cabin has been on my radar forever. Locals talk about it. Their digital sign has even claimed “Best Ranch in Town” (though naturally, it wasn’t flashing that the day I showed up, rude). But I’m happy to report: hype, met.

This ranch? It’s good. Salty in the best way, like a good dirty martini, and thick enough to grab onto whatever you’re eating without making a mess. It’s the kind of ranch you remember later and wish you had more of. I dipped everything in it, my salad (buried under a pile of cheese, bless it), stolen chips from my husband, and eventually pizza.

Pro tip: Ask for the big side of ranch. That little ramekin is cute, but when the ranch is this thick, it doesn’t go far. I learned my lesson and asked for the big daddy cup when the pizza hit the table, and thank god I did. That cup came home with me. We don’t waste a good thing.

The food overall? Great. But that sandwich? It was out here slicing mouths up like a ninja. Still tasty, just… be aware.

But here’s what really burns my buns: The Cabin is owned by the same people who run two other spots in town. And guess what? From previous experience (not formally reviewed here), their ranch is trash. How is this place out here serving gold while the others are handing out sad excuses for dressing, doing their customers dirty? Spread the love. Share the recipe. Let the other kids on the playground have a turn.
