Timeout Tavern - Clare, Michigan
Timeout Tavern served up decent food but seriously missed the mark on ranch. The regular one had no flavor, no smell, and left me wondering if my taste buds took the day off. The jalapeño version had a little more personality but still felt like a lazy remix. Neither one is worth dipping into again.
RANCH REVIEWNOPEMICHIGAN BASED
You know how local spots can either be a hidden gem or a total flop? Timeout Tavern unfortunately took the wrong exit.
Let’s start with the regular ranch. My food was solid (shoutout to the kitchen), but the ranch? Absolute ghost. I’ve never had to work so hard to find a flavor. I literally had a moment where I thought, “Wait… do I have COVID again?” Because everything else had flavor, except this sad little cup of nothing. No smell, no taste, looked suspiciously bottled. The consistency was actually decent, but flavor-wise? It was giving sour pepper air, and not in a good way.
Then there was the jalapeño ranch. I had hope for this one. And while it wasn’t great, it was better. Heavy on the jalapeño flavor (like pickled jalapeños blended in, Jimmy John’s style), but still not a lot going on. I did clock the little red flecks in it, kind of like the ones I saw in the ranch at Wood Shop Social, which momentarily made me excited, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. This wasn’t that. Not even close.
The regular ranch is a firm Nope, and while the jalapeño ranch did try, it still landed a Nope being somewhere between confused and underwhelming.
