Not all ranch is created equal

Zingerman's Delicatessen - Ann Arbor, Michigan

Unique, herb-forward homemade ranch featuring tarragon, rosemary, and thyme. If you love rosemary, this might be a top-tier experience. Cute packaging, market price, and served at one of the friendliest spots around.

First of all, this spot is a whole vibe. The staff? 10/10. One person even ran and got me a sample of their russian dressing to try when I told them of my website while I was waiting for my food. (It was delicious, by the way)

Shoutout to Becky and Marv - you made my day!

Now let’s talk ranch.

I cracked open a container while I waited for my sandwich and salad and dipped some pretzels like the classy ranch connoisseur I am. First impression: it smells like it means business. That herb-forward flavor comes through immediately: tarragon, rosemary, and thyme (yes, I read the bottle like a true ranchologist). It’s earthy, unique, and definitely homemade.

Now, I liked it. A lot. But it didn’t make me do the ranch-happy-dance (obviously a scientific meter). The tarragon (maybe?) was a bit strong for my personal taste, but if you’re a tarragon fan, this might be your ranch soulmate. The packaging is super cute and the take-home bottle is priced the same as Gus’s ($7) must be the going market rate.

All in all: a solid runner-up. Not an everyday ranch for me, but definitely worth the stop and the memories. Oh, and also, solid pimento cheese dip! That one is definitely worth trying, too.
